Carbonated Drinks: Full sugar or diet pop…CRAP!!  Need I say more?  Unfortunately, soda seems to be a staple in the North American Diet and is directly related to the rising rate of obesity, type II diabetes, behavioral disorders in children, depression, the list goes on!  Don’t be fooled by juice, lemonade and sport drinks.  These sugary drinks can be just as detrimental to our health as soda and sadly, the target market for this CRAP is our children!  Advertising companies trick us with phrases such as “100% Fresh,” “Packed With Vitamin C,” “Made With Real Fruit,” “All Natural!”  Don’t be fooled by this marketing.  Drinking this CRAP fills the tank with toxic fuel.  Definitely not the kind of fuel that will boost fertility, nourish our growing seed or help us lose our postpartum weight!

INSTEAD: Try soda water with fresh squeezed lime, lemon, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, mint, cucumber or basil…yummmmmmm 🙂

Refined Sugars –  When glucose enters the bloodstream, our pancreas releases insulin to help transport this glucose to our cells.  Once the cells have enough, all extra glucose is stored as fat on our breasts (I wish,) bellies, hips and thighs.  However, when we eat a diet consisting of refined, nutrient stripped and depleted CRAP, our blood sugar levels will skyrocket very quickly.  As a result, our poor pancreas is forced to dump out even more insulin to help regulate the glucose.  This can be a dangerous and vicious cycle, as over time, one may develop insulin resistance, which results in our bodies being less effective at regulating blood sugar.  Insulin resistance can also affect our ability to lose weight as it affects our body’s ability to use stored fat as energy. 🙁 Furthermore, this vicious cycle can lead us to developing type II diabetes, obesity, fertility issues and many other health issues.

PCOS? If you are struggling with PCOS, it is SO important to cut out refined sugars!  PCOS can become worse when there is a surge of insulin in the bloodstream and affect the body’s hormonal balance.

INSTEAD: opt for complex carbs such as whole grains, beans and veggies.  These take longer for your body to break down, preventing blood sugar spikes!  Also, make sure to eat good fats and proteins with your carbohydrates to help stabilize blood sugar levels.

Artificial Sweeteners –  Confession: Throughout my teens and early twenties, I was a sugar free, Splenda & Sweet N’ Low kind of girl!  YUCK!  Looking back, I can’t believe I poisoned myself with that toxic CRAP!  Yes, they are FDA approved (what isn’t these days?)  I have read so much about artificial sweeteners and their side effects.  Some I have experienced, some not:

  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Bloating/Stomach issues
  • Seizures
  • Depression
  • Weight Gain, Obesity
  • Link to Diabetes
  • Link to Cancer

These toxins are obviously NOT fertility friendly, will NOT nourish your growing baby and can potentially cause many issues for Mommas!

INSTEAD: Try Stevia, organic agave or just eat fresh fruit to get your sweet fix!  You really are already sweet enough! 🙂

Processed Foods: Aren’t real foods, in my opinion.  Next time you pick up that packaged item to put in your shopping cart, read the back and count how many words you have never heard of, let alone, can even pronounce!   These tongue twister words are the “glue” added to this CRAP to flavor, texture, preserve, sweeten, color, stabilize, bleach, the list goes on!  BUT, this crap is FDA approved so it’s okay, right?  You are what you eat, so that choice is yours.

INSTEAD: Fill your cart with organic lean meats, organic fruits and vegetables, low fat dairy, nuts, seeds, eggs, foods that actually expire!  AND, don’t be fooled by marketing.  Companies have a way of making “a bowl of lucky charms with chocolate milk and a poptart on the side” sound healthy!

You are what you eat so cut the CRAP!

With much love,
